Thank You to Our EFC Chairman and Executive Director
On behalf of our community, principals, teachers, students and fellow board members, I would like to say “Thank You”. For over ten years, David and Sheila Hickey have volunteered countless hours organizing and raising money for our schools through Education for the Children Foundation. It all began when the Hickey’s oldest daughter (now a Tesoro High School graduate), was in the second grade. The Hickey’s, along with other dedicated parents and community leaders joined EFC. “Sheila was my first and only choice to take over my position as Executive Director”, said former Executive Director, Terry Corwin, “She and Dave have done an outstanding job!”
To date, EFC has funded over 1.3 million dollars to support teacher grant programs and facility upgrades at six local schools; Arroyo Vista School, Wagon Wheel Elementary School, Tijeras Creek Elementary School, Las Flores Elementary School, Las Flores Middle School and Tesoro High School. EFC’s mission has been and is, to build a relationship between public schools and the community raising money to supplement the educational resources of local schools.
With the Hickeys knowledge, kind-hearts and willingness to lend a helping hand, EFC has become a powerful, parent-run, volunteer organization. “While we are sad to see our dear friends and colleagues move on, we are thankful that they had the foresight to help develop such a fantastic and needed group of loving parents to help our children have a better educational experience”, said Board Member, Elizabeth Bastian, “With their guidance, EFC has been a delightful and very rewarding place to serve. They have paved the way for future volunteers to be successful”.
EFC’s new Chairman and Executive Director; Clark Jones and Jennifer Edwards have been elected and will assume their new positions beginning in August, 2010. Please watch for an Education for the Children booth at your local back to school registration event.
