Investing in education for our children, their teachers and the community.

EFC Grants $76,000 to Six CUSD Schools

As a result of the fundraising efforts of the Education for the Children (EFC) board and generous donations from the local community, $76,000 was recently granted to six Capistrano Unified Schools: Tesoro, Las Flores Middle, Las Flores Elementary, Wagon Wheel, Arroyo Vista and Tijeras Creek.

“As grant committee chair it is a privilege to make sure each school receives funding for teacher requested programs and materials,” said Elizabeth Bastian, EFC Board Member. “EFC plays a unique role in that we provide funding for items that might otherwise not be available to the students and teachers. Our goal is to provide materials that enhance the school experience for children and this year we were so pleased to grant $76,000 to our family of schools.”

Each school had several items requested; some of the items that were granted are listed below.

Wagon Wheel:
Epson Document Camera/Projector Bundles, SharpatScat Kit
Arroyo Vista:
Espson Projectors, Computers
Tijeras Creek:
Computers, California Content Standard Practice and Mastery
Las Flores Elementary:
Projection screens and maps, SRA Reading Laboratories,
Easy Grammar
Las Flores Middle:
Science Lab Tables, Smart Board System
Tesoro:
LCD Projectors, Document Cameras, iPads

The board carefully evaluates the requests and grants the money based on need and dollar amount. Donations made to EFC through its events like the Family Fun 5K, the popular spring event and private donations help make these grants possible and help every student now and for years to come.

“The role of EFC in our schools is invaluable. They are a resource for teachers to provide students with programs and materials that enhance their curriculum and teaching,” says Shannon Soto, Las Flores Middle School Principal. “The grants received this year range from new computers to a Smart Whiteboard System to a Science DVD Library. These are items we likely wouldn’t have been able to purchase without the help of EFC.”
